Students get free access to a variety of artistic performances, exhibits at CSU

Actors in Machinal performance

Attention all CSU students: Did you know that in addition to athletics events, your student fees provide you with free access to a variety of events, performances, exhibitions and more?

Below is more information on the various offerings.

University Center for the Arts

There are more than 200 concerts, plays, dance concerts, operas and recitals produced by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance each year. Students can attend these events at the University Center for the Arts for no charge. Log in on this website to claim your tickets: https://csuartstickets.universitytickets.com/

Here are a few shows this fall:

Sept. 29-Oct. 8
Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson
A whip-smart, headstrong pioneer at the dawn of modern astronomy, Henrietta Leavitt must leave her Wisconsin home to pursue her dream of studying the night sky.

Nov. 3-12
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by Rachel Sheinkin and William Finn
An eclectic group of six pubescents vies for a spelling championship. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life-un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling error.

Nov. 10-11
Fall Dance Concert
Featuring dance faculty Grace Gallagher, Matthew Harvey and Joy Prendergast. Student-choreographed selections as well as the creation of choreographer and guest artist JoAnna Mendl Shaw.

Not a major but want to audition?
Want to join a band, choir or orchestra? Want to audition for a play or a dance concert? At CSU, the performing arts are open to all majors. If you don’t have an instrument with you on campus, don’t worry! Many instruments are available to rent.

Hatton Gallery (in the Visual Arts Building)

Oct. 5-Dec. 22
“Silsila” by Sama Alshaibi
The Center for Fine Art Photography and the Hatton Gallery are excited to present Silsila by Sama Alshaibi as part of the Environmental Justice thru the Arts Exhibition series. Arabic for “chain” or “link” — Silsila is a multimedia project depicting Alshaibi’s seven-year cyclic journey through the significant deserts and endangered water sources of the Middle East and North African region. Through this body of work, the artist examines connections between different cultures that are under threat of displacement, recognizing shared global issues that need to be addressed.
