A new day for Adult Learner & Veteran Services

With new Director Marc Barker now at the helm of Adult Learner & Veteran Services, the office will be implementing several new changes in order to reach as many students — both on campus and off — as possible.

ALVS is located on the north end of the Lory Student Center, tucked into a corner between the Grey Rock Room and the bookstore. Since its humble beginnings as an office to support adult women returning to college in the early 1970s, ALVS has offered support to students of a non-traditional age, student parents and student veterans.

ALVS-HeaderThe office is currently undergoing a massive rebranding process to widen its reach. With a brand-new newsletter format replacing its bombardment of emails each week, a new plan of action to better utilize social media accounts, the revamping of the display case, and a heaping spoonful of help from CoLab, the office is ready to come out on top, and totally renewed.

Even the office itself is changing. The professional staff will be swapping offices to better provide students with a welcoming environment as well as an ALVS Career Center and an ALVS Connect office with success coaches and peer mentors. The office for SALUTE, the national academic honor society for veteran students, also recently moved to the Veteran’s Educational Benefits Office in Centennial Hall.

Be on the lookout for stories on ALVS in the Collegian on Monday, March 21, and keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to participate in surveys and focus groups from CoLab to provide feedback that will help improve the office.

The ALVS office is looking forward to the future and is very excited to explore more options. Stop by the office and check it out.
