Site preparation begins for new parking garage

The north section of the University Square parking lot will close on August 3, when site preparation begins for the new South College Parking Garage. The closure will impact 275 parking spaces in lot #575.hard hat general 2 On August 3, the underpass tunnel at College Avenue near the University Center for the Arts also will be closed while the city improves bike access on Remington Street. CSU crews also will move the sidewalk access adjacent to the University Square lot to the tunnel to accommodate changes created by the construction project. The tunnel will be closed from August 5-13 while these improvements are completed. The South College Parking Garage is a four-story building that will add 650 parking spaces to campus inventory. It is slated to be finished in about a year.

Updated Aug 14: Utility work impacts Pitkin Street

Updated August 14 Traffic on Pitkin will continued to be reduced to one late between Center Avenue and Mason Street until August 21. On Friday, August 21, the section between East Drive and Mason will open to traffic both ways. On Thursday, August 27, the remaining section between Center Avenue and East Drive will also open. Updated 2 p.m. Aug. 7 On Monday, Aug. 10, traffic flaggers will on Pitkin Street be between East Drive and Mason Street while traffic is reduced to one lane for utility work. Work is expected to be completed in this area by Tuesday, Aug. 25 and also will impact pedestrian and bike routes. Additional periodic traffic disruptions are anticipated between the Newton statute on Center Avenue and East Drive into the fall. Flaggers will be in this area through mid-November for periodic lane closures. Two-way traffic will be allowed with the flaggers during daytime hours, and both lanes are anticipated to be open during evenings and weekends. Updated 3 p.m. Aug. 3 Pitkin traffic will be reduced to one lane from Aug 6-15 directly north of the stadium construction site, and south of Newsom and Aylesworth Halls. Flaggers will be on site to manage traffic. Both lanes will be open during evening and weekend hours. (original post July 24) Pitkin between Meridian to Visual Arts Building Traffic flaggers will be on Pitkin Street from Meridian Avenue east to the Visual Arts Building starting Monday, July 27 through Friday, August 7 to accommodate utility work. Both east and west traffic will be allowed to pass, but expect delays and detours. Eastbound traffic will move through the work zone, and westbound traffic will be rerouted through the Braiden parking lot to South Drive. Pitkin between Center Ave to East Drive On the east side of campus,Pitkin Street will be impacted by utility work between the Newton statue on Center Avenue to East Drive, starting July 29. Initial disruptions will be to the sidewalk on the north side of Pitkin Street, but starting in late August also will impact traffic lanes. At that time, traffic flaggers will assist with traffic flow through mid-November.

Updated: Lake, Pitkin routes impacted

Updated 12:15 p.m. July 24 Traffic flaggers will be on Pitkin Street from Meridian Avenue east to the Visual Arts Building starting Monday, July 27 through August 7 to accommodate utility work. Both east and west traffic will be allowed to pass, but expect delays. Original post (July 17) On Monday, July 20, sidewalks on Lake and Pitkin streets around the construction fence for the stadium site will be shifted into the construction fence zone. On Lake Street, the construction fence will come out onto the street, and a protected walkway on Lake Street will be created to allow safe movement for pedestrians and bike riders. On Lake Street adjacent to the Aggie Village site, the construction fence also will be expanded over the sidewalks. Two lanes for campus traffic will remain. These shifts will remove street parking along this section of Lake Street on the north side of the street between Whitcomb Street and the arboretum, and on both sides of Lake between Whitcomb and Center. Parking along this section of Lake Street has not required a university permit. Utility work also will be performed on Pitkin Street near the Visual Arts building.

Updated August 14 Both lanes of Lake Street will be open to east/west traffic on Thursday, August 20   Original post (July 17) Lake Street traffic will be delayed for utility work from Wednesday, July 22-Friday, July 31. Traffic will be reduced to one lane between East Drive east to the railroad tracks, with flaggers on site from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Expect delays, and consider using alternate routes. Two lanes offering traffic flow east and west will be open during the evenings, from 7 p.m.-7 a.m.

South Drive one-way to be reversed

South Drive reopened today, July 31, as a one-way to the west. This rerouting will provide an additional avenue to Shields Street from the west side of campus. Original post (July 17) South Drive will be reversed from a one-way east to a one-way west to ease traffic congestion on campus. The road and parking along the road will be closed from July 23-30 to reconfigure the street and 236 parking spaces. Access to Hartshorn and other buildings along the drive will be maintained via detour routes posted with signs. South Drive will reopen as a one-way west on July 31.

Prospect, Center traffic impacted for utility work

Starting Monday, June 15 and ending June 25, Prospect Road and Center Avenue will be impacted for utility work. Prospect Road will be reduced to one lane moving east for a short distance near the intersection with Center Avenue June 15-17. Center Avenue will be reduced to one lane for a short distance between Prospect Road and Bay Drive from June 15 -June 22. Both north-bound lanes of Center Avenue will close from Prospect Road to Bay Drive June 22 – June23. Work will conclude on June 25.  Flaggers will be in the area to assist with traffic flow, but avoiding the area is best.

Administration Building roofing project impacts access

Updated July 15: End date for project has been extended to July 24, due to weather delays. Original text (June 11, 2015) The roof of the Administration Building will be replaced starting on June 22. Depending upon weather, the project is slated to conclude on July 17. Parking directly south of the building will be closed, impacting 11 parking spaces including reserved permit spaces, loading zones and state and service vehicle spaces.The drive providing access to those parking areas will be closed along with the south entrance of the building. These closures will accommodate a crane and provide access to the roof for contractors. This project will not affect parking lots 349 and 350 (the metered lot and the A lot) to the south of the Administration Building.
