State classified staff encouraged to join CPC to support, advocate for peers

Have you ever wanted to advocate for and support concerns important to state classified employees at CSU? Have you thought about meeting new people, making connections and collaborating with people across CSU? Are you reading this, thinking you want to learn more?

CPC Logo SquareMany employees have answered the call to become a Classified Personnel Council member. Employee councils like CPC, the Administrative Professionals Council and Faculty Council are the key elements in the practice of shared governance at Colorado State University, giving employees a voice and allowing them to actively participate in making positive changes at CSU.

The Council represents CSU state classified employees on issues such as raises, parking, work-life balance, supervisor training and employee recognition, while also contributing to university committees across campus. The mission of the CPC is to promote, improve and protect the role of state classified employees within the University.

Strengthening staff’s voice

“This past year, CPC has been working hard for state classified employees to strengthen our voice within CSU’s administration,” said CPC Chair Jim Abraham. “To accomplish that goal, we’re striving to increase our membership. The CPC has hosted free lunches for classified staff as well as met individually with departments such as the CSU Police Department, Central Receiving, Housing and Dining Services, and the Student Disability Center. So far this year, we’ve met and spoken with over 100 state classified staff.”

Abraham added, “While hearing broader concerns from campus always helps the CPC to calibrate its work, I can’t help but stress that it is even better to get involved in CPC and join the council. As part of shared governance at CSU, the CPC has a seat at the table with the President’s Executive Leadership Team. Increasing our membership with new voices from departments around campus diversifies our group, providing a truer representation of the broader state classified staff. Your participation will go a long way to ensure decisions made by the University represent the best interests of state classified staff.”

All classified employees working half-time or more who have been employed by CSU for at least one year at are eligible for membership. To become a CPC representative, check out the self-nomination process at https://cpc.colostate.edu/interested-in-joining-cpc. Applications are being accepted through March 31, and the membership term begins in July.
