Ram greetings to some ‘real McCoys’

Story by Auli Summerhays

How do you recognize CSU employees who are located far from the everyday CSU life, separated by several states and hundreds of miles from the Fort Collins campus?

Some employees of the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) found that out on Friday, March 11, as a box from the Colorado State University Employee Appreciation Board arrived at their installation in Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. While busy with control burns, plant surveys, rehabilitation jobs and archaeological work, they enjoyed the surprise.Fort-McCoy-party-in-a-box

This was a small “party in a box” for these far-removed CSU employees to recognize them for their dedication and service to the University as they serve at an U.S. Army installation far from Colorado. Though quite isolated from “Ram Country,” these employees are a great group of people who love their jobs and put in extra effort whenever needed, making supervision by CEMML leadership in Fort Collins easy.

“They have ownership of ‘their’ installation and pride in the work they do,” says Christine Bern, their nominator. “They make my job and that of Bob Brozka and Jim Zeidler easy. They are all good, focused people who represent the best of Colorado State and are proud to be CSU employees.”

Off-campus employees often feel left out, and the “party in a box” brought Fort Collins and Fort McCoy employees a bit closer. The CSU Employee Appreciation Board recognized this unique employee group for their work and thanked them with some Ram spirit in the form of CSU shirts, hats and cookies.

Recognition for dedication

The CSU Employee Appreciation Board, originally formed in 1968, recognizes employees for their hard work and promotes community spirit among CSU faculty and staff through events such as breakfasts and luncheons. Each month, the Board hosts a prize drawing for all faculty and staff who submit an entry form, including a coveted reserved parking space for a full month.

The board meets monthly during the academic year to discuss and plan employee recognition events, as well as to help promote university events. One of the main objectives of the board is the monthly recognition of a group, entity or college.
