outstanding grad story by Brendan Henry
published May 6, 2024

Treasure Morgan has excelled on two fronts: first in the agricultural sciences department at Colorado State University, and second by advocating for underrepresented students.

Morgan grew up in Gallup, New Mexico, in a ranching environment. Her family, part of the Navajo Nation, was in the cattle business, so naturally, Morgan found a love for both being and working outside.

When the time came to find a university, Morgan was drawn to CSU for its pre-collegiate Native Education Forum program that allows high school students to visit for five days. Inspired by the program, Morgan chose to pursue animal science as her major and soil science as a minor, saying that animals, land and soil all work together.

As a Native American, Morgan has advocated for Native American students and Native culture throughout her time at CSU. Morgan has simultaneously maintained her honors status and is an associate senator for the Native American Cultural Center, vice president of the Ag Council and on the Student Equity team as a Native American representative. In addition to this, she has been a part of Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), AES summer internships and United in STEMM. She has volunteered to work directly for the assistant vice president for Indigenous and Native American Affairs, and also volunteers in picking up trash in her local community.

On top of all of her experience, Morgan has also completed a CITI program that has certified her social/humanistic/behavioral research.
