The Everyday Hero Award is a special program sponsored by the Classified Personnel Council that recognizes outstanding employees at Colorado State University. We would like to thank the nominators and celebrate the nominees for helping CSU continue a tradition of success.

Mary Baltierra was very excited and very surprised to receive the Everyday Hero Award for a second time.

Baltierra, who has worked at CSU for 15 years, would like to thank her team for the honor. For the past four years, she has been with Facilities Management, where she currently works as a custodial lead.

Baltierra enjoys everything about her position from her wonderful team to the endless opportunities within Facilities Management as well as her customers. She is a very social person and counts her customers as one of the many blessings of her job.

In her Everyday Hero Award nomination letter, Facilities Management Technician Jyenna Baeza said: “Mary comes into work each and every day with the most radiant attitude. She is like a ray of sunshine in our days of monotonous routine. She has a smile for everyone that she comes into contact with. She is very dedicated to her job and in the last six months. She has had to fill the role of a supervisor while a replacement was being found. During that time, she had to overcome many obstacles and learn self-confidence. She overcame that and led her crew to continue to be successful. She has earned praise from her peers and management. Mary deserves to be recognized because she has such a beautiful personality. She is so caring about her staff and she always has a smile for everyone.”

Baltierra has participated in committees in the past but does not sit on any at this time. She is open to the possibility in the future.

When Baltierra is not delighting her customers or working with her team, you can find her enjoying Bachata dancing as well as spending time with her four grandchildren, family and friends. She also enjoys reading horror books, especially if the novel has Dracula or a werewolf in the story.
