Food for Fines raises over $1,800 for Rams Against Hunger

From Nov. 13 to Dec. 31, Parking and Transportation Services sponsored the Food for Fines program, which encouraged individuals to contribute $10 to Rams Against Hunger in exchange for a $20 reduction to an active citation. With over 200 individuals participating, the program garnered $1,860 in contributions while simultaneously reducing $3,720 in citation fees.

At its inception in 1998, the Food for Fines program accepted donations of canned food to the Food Bank for Larimer County in exchange for a partial reduction on a citation fee. In recent years, the program pivoted to monetary contributions to the Rams Against Hunger Meal Swipe Program which provides meal swipes for CSU dining halls to students experiencing food insecurity.

“Parking and Transportation Services’ partnership with Rams Against Hunger has allowed us to encourage generosity between CSU community members while offering our customers the opportunity to save some money as they wrap up their semester,” said Dave Bradford, executive director of PTS.

Food for Fines runs twice each year at the end of fall and spring semesters, with the next round set to open in April 2024.
