Default sharing settings in Microsoft 365 storage applications changing on Aug. 1

In order to enhance the security profile of the CSU System, the Division of IT (DoIT) is changing the default file sharing setting within Microsoft 365 storage applications on Aug. 1. This should have minimal impact on day-to-day work and allows for a more secure file sharing environment.

Starting Aug. 1, file sharing in Microsoft 365 storage applications will change from the default permissions of “Anyone with the link” to “People you specify can edit.”

This requires you to specifically select and add people with whom you want to share documents with.

Files that have previously been shared will not be impacted by this change, however, DoIT encourages the CSU community to review sharing permissions and restrict them to only those who need access.

Information on changing permissions or general file sharing in Office 365 can be found on the One Drive help and learning page.
