CSU Residential Dining Services among the best in higher ed culinary facilities

The Foundry

Students enjoy lunch at The Foundry, which is open seven days a week and allows flexible dining within five meal times.

With so many food options on and off campus, it takes a special eatery to win over the taste buds of our campus community. Honoring food, history and indigenous cultures, The Foundry dining center at Corbett and Parmelee Halls encompasses the best in culinary options while paying tribute to our land grant roots, through food and branding.

The Foundry was honored among the best of food service in higher education, winning Gold in the category of Residential Dining Facility for large schools in the 2019 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards through the National Association of Colleges & Universities Food Services.

Since 1958, NACUFS has supported the college and university foodservice market by providing members with the programs and resources they need to excel, from benchmarking and best practices to educational programming and professional networking. The awards celebrate exemplary menus, presentations, special event planning, and new dining concepts.

Residential Dining Services was not the only CSU food service area being recognized by NACUFS. CSU’s Lory Student Center Catering also received high honors with two prestigious Gold awards in Catering-Special Events and Catering-Online menu.

“NACUFS is the highest association for College and University Food Services, and to win this award is one of the highest honors a college or university can win,” said Liz Poore, director of CSU’s Residential Dining Services. “NACUFS’s mission is to support and promote excellence in collegiate dining, with membership including institutions of higher education from across the United States, Canada and abroad, and industry members from food, equipment and consulting market segments.”

About The Foundry

The Foundry is a collective of eight distinct micro-restaurants, each one showcasing a different cuisine tailored to supporting the mission of RDS. “We strive to give the customers as many options and variety as we can.  Food halls and micro-restaurants in general are big in major cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City and Las Vegas.”

The result is a shared space of a hybrid food hall concept that plays on the popularity of a foodie collective – each with a distinct atmosphere achieved through individual branding, serving, and seating areas.

During menu development at The Foundry, an emphasis on creating a culinary journey with a global community was at the forefront. From bimbibap and custom-made sushi bowls at Passport, five-spice pork belly tacos and hand-breaded chicken tenders at Theory, to our house-recipe chicken Shawarma and home-made beef bourekas at Kosher Bistro, The Foundry is a campus dining destination for all cultures and cuisines.

Residential Dining Services offers a wide range of innovative venues and services to meet the dining needs of everyone on campus. More than 2 million meals are served each year through the five “all-you-care-to-eat” dining centers on campus. CSU faculty and staff are also welcome to dine at any of the facilities at a discounted rate. For details on faculty/staff meal plans, visit housing.colostate.edu/dining/meal-plans/#staff.
