Fort Collins residents can learn about current and upcoming transportation projects in the city and get their questions answered by project managers and experts at the city’s Transportation Projects Fair.
The open house-style fair is free to attend, open to the public and will be held Thursday, Feb. 22, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Northside Aztlan Community Center, 112 E. Willow St.
More than 25 transportation-related projects will be featured, covering short-range and long-term efforts. city staff and representatives of partner organizations including Colorado State University, Bike Fort Collins, the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Front Range Passenger Rail District will be available to talk with those who attend.
CSU projects at the fair include:
- The Phemister Trail, located just south of main campus, connecting the Prospect Underpass to the Spring Creek Trail, to begin construction this spring.
- The new Mountain Loop Trail, including new sections of separated trail, accessibility improvements and a bicycle-pedestrian roundabout.
- The coming West Elizabeth Bus Rapid Transit corridor that will connect CSU’s Main and Foothills Campuses with a MAX-like bus system and enhanced pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.
- New speed control infrastructure on Hughes Way.
- Safety campaign to educate motorists not to park in bike lanes.
- Senior design projects for Reservoir Ridge and Soldier Creek Trail.
“This is a unique event for the City of Fort Collins,” said Lauren Nagle, active modes specialist with FC Moves. “This lets our community come and speak with someone in person, rather than via email or trying to find information through the internet. They can speak to many project managers at the same time about everything from biking to street repairs to the potential of a passenger rail along the Front Range. It’s really a unique opportunity.”
“We appreciate the opportunity to engage with the community about CSU-related transportation projects,” said Jamie Gaskill, associate director of active transportation at CSU. “There’s a lot of great work happening to enhance transportation at CSU and also to help people get to and from our campuses safely and seamlessly.”
Light refreshments will be served, and Spanish language interpretation will be available.
