The honors from the Colorado chapter of the PRSA (Gold Picks and Silver Picks) were presented in August, and the CASE Best of District VI Awards were announced this month. In addition to Colorado, CASE District VI includes Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.

The CSU Magazine and a SOURCE feature story about CSU’s rich history in atmospheric science and Earth observation written by former CSU science writer Anne Manning each won a Gold Pick in the Colorado PRSA competition. The CSU Magazine also won a CASE Best of District VI Award.

Other honors

There were several other award winners:

• Joe Giordano took home both a PRSA Silver Pick and a CASE Best of District VI Award for a multimedia feature story about a CSU professor who traveled to Mount Everest for the world’s highest climate conference. The story featured a video produced by CSU videographer Ben Ward.

• Stacy Nick won a CASE Best of District VI Award for her podcast series The Audit, specifically episodes interviewing CSU experts on Colorado’s tarantula migration and the history of witchcraft.

• Nick and CSU Magazine Editor Kate Jeracki were awarded a PRSA Silver Pick and CASE Best of District VI honors for the magazine podcast “A Campus Conversation.”

• Nick also won a CASE Best of District VI Award for a SOURCE article about a CSU program that assists partners and landowners with wildfire recovery.

• Jennifer Dimas and Allison Sylte won a PRSA Silver Pick for their adoption of a breaking news approach to leverage the expertise of CSU faculty on trending topics, which has garnered significant national news coverage.

STATE Magazine

In addition to the honors for the communications team, the CSU System’s STATE Magazine won a CASE Best of District VI Award for the entry “Amache: Resurrecting painful history in southern Colorado,” an article written by Executive Editor Coleman Cornelius and designed by Art Director Mary Sweitzer.
