“I tell people from my hometown to go to CSU! It is a beautiful campus and has so many opportunities.”

During the 2022-23 academic year, we are highlighting one Colorado State University student or alum from each of Colorado’s 64 counties. The Centennial State’s land grant university has a connection to the diverse lands and people from the counties of Moffat to Baca, Montezuma to Sedgwick and everywhere in between.

Sherry LeFlore

Major: Geology (1981 graduate)

Why I chose CSU: I chose CSU because of the Natural Resources Department, and I had other friends attending from my hometown.

My favorite thing about CSU: One of my favorite things about CSU was playing in the marching band, running around the campus (3 miles) every day with my friend Zoey, and the CSU Navigators.

Clubs/organizations in college: Geology club

Favorite instructor/class: Dr. Burns was my favorite professor. Mineralogy was my favorite class.

Favorite achievement in high school or college: In high school, my favorite achievement was getting first at the state track meet in the 110-yard hurdles.

Career goals: My career goal was to be the best geologist ever. Instead, I became a mom of 6 children. The best job ever!

Favorite NOCO food or hangouts: I liked to eat at the China Dragon. I enjoyed hanging out at the Friends church close to campus.

Favorite CSU tradition: One of my favorite traditions is Cam the Ram at football games. Of course, the marching band usually preformed at halftime at Hughes Stadium. The marching band would pass a student up and throw a dummy off the top – it looked real at first.

Quirky fact: A quirky fact about me is that I love to collect leaves.

I’d like to thank: I’d like to thank my parents and the good Lord for blessing my socks off.

What do you tell people from Cheyenne County about CSU: I tell people from my hometown to go to CSU! It is a beautiful campus and has so many opportunities.

Something to know about Cheyenne County: Cheyenne County has the most beautiful sunsets and the major crop is wheat.

Biggest adversity you overcame at CSU: Having a reliable car.
