Assistant Registrar Jeanne Breiner retiring at end of May

Story by Ilene Withers

Assistant Registrar Jeanne Breiner is retiring at the end of May after over 25 years of employment at CSU.

During her time at CSU, she has seen many changes. She said that in 1974 when she first started at CSU, “registration took place in a large room where the department representatives were at tables and students came to the tables to get registered.” When she began in the Registrar’s office in 2003, students registered via an automated phone line using their unique 4-digit PAC code. Then, with the advent of RAMweb, students began to register online using an EID. During her time here, the department has also moved away from using Social Security numbers to using assigned ID numbers. In 2008, it quit using ISIS as a student information system and started using Banner. At that time, grades were no longer entered on scantron sheets, but directly into Banner by the instructor.

Breiner started at CSU in 1974 as an administrative clerk in the School of Education. She was then promoted to senior secretary in 1983. In 1985, Breiner left CSU and took a job as registrar’s assistant at the National Technological University. A satellite university based in Fort Collins, NTU promoted her to director of admissions and records/registrar in 1997. She stayed with them until she learned that the office was relocating out of state.

Breiner is counting the days until retirement. She is looking forward to spending more time with her retired husband, Jerry. She also has several hobbies, including quilting, crocheting and exercising, that she wants to have more time for. Although she hasn’t ruled out coming back to CSU as needed, she has several volunteer opportunities in mind.

The entire Breiner family are Rams. Daughter Brittany graduated in May 2009 and Jeanne earned a Master of Education in Vocational Education in May 1997. Jerry has attended CSU, as have numerous members of her extended family.

Those who would like to help Breiner celebrate this exciting milestone in her life can attend a reception on May 19th from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Long’s Peak Room of the LSC. RSVPs should be sent to Ilene.withers@colostate.edu.
