Nely Galán talk postponed

Sept. 9 update: This event has been postponed. For rescheduling information, go to theadelantemovement.com.

Nely Galán, author of Self Made: Becoming Empowered, Self-Reliant and Rich in Every Way, will speak Sept. 12, 10 a.m., in the Ballroom of the Lory Student Center on the Colorado State University campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Galán, a Cuban immigrant, became president of entertainment for Telemundo Network. She is an entrepreneur, a teacher, a speaker, an Emmy Award-winning producer, and an advocate for gender parity.

“To be able to say ‘I am self-made’ is an honor,’ Galán said. “To be self-made is a new way of defining success for women. A self-made woman is free because she is financially independent or on her way. A self-made woman acts as if she has an owner’s stake in every aspect of her life — because she does.”

Galán’s appearance is presented by Coca-Cola as part of its 5×20 program, designed to help 5 million women start new businesses by the year 2020, and The Adelante Movement, founded by Galán to help empower Latinas economically and entrepreneurially.
