International Symposium set to cover topics of democracy and civic engagement

International Symposium 2024

This year’s International Symposium, scheduled for April 2-3, is strongly aligned with CSU’s Thematic Year. Attendees can look forward to two days of sessions that address themes of democracy and civic engagement in a global context.

The International Symposium, organized by the Office of International Programs, will feature a wide range of global topics, including climate and environmental justice, technology, politics and education.

All sessions are free and open to the public, no registration required. The symposium will be held in person at the Lory Student Center, and all sessions will have virtual options available. For a full schedule of events and to plan your symposium itinerary, please visit international.colostate.edu/symposium.

When it comes to internationalization, the topics are broad. Pop into a session about the impact of social media on democracy and follow it up with a thought-provoking panel discussing climate refugees or greenness and democracy.

In addition to the host of daily sessions, there are two key symposium happenings:

Keynote: The State of Global Democracy – A Conversation with Julia Ioffe

When: Tuesday, Apr. 2, from 4-5 p.m. in Lory Student Center Ballroom D

Watch the live stream: col.st/9JnXw

Julia Ioffe is a founding partner and Washington correspondent at Puck, a new media venture covering the inside conversations in the four corners of American power: Hollywood, Wall Street, Silicon Valley and Washington. Prior to launching Puck, Ioffe wrote for a number of prominent publications, including The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Republic and Politico.

Plenary Session: The Ethics and Philosophy of University Engagement with Undemocratic Countries
