Help future Rams feel at home at Explore CSU

Over 1,300 prospective Colorado State University students and guests will attend Explore CSU Friday, Oct. 28, and the entire campus is asked to give a big green-and-gold welcome to a group that includes many future Rams.

Explore CSU is the largest visit program hosted by the Office of Admissions during the fall semester. About 100 group leaders and volunteers from the university and community will guide prospective students and their guests around campus to various locations as part of the tour day.

High-impact event

“We are really excited to host Explore CSU again this year, and we couldn’t do it without the many contributions of our campus partners, staff, students, community and alumni volunteers assisting our office throughout the day,” said Erika Ryan, senior assistant director of Visitor Services. “For the past two years, over half of the students who attended enrolled at CSU in the fall, making this a high-impact event for our campus community. Thanks in advance for helping to welcome these future Rams and their families to campus.”

Information sessions will be held on all eight academic colleges as well as Honors and Undergraduate Research, the Center for Advising and Student Achievement, Pre-Human Health Professions, the Pre-Veterinary program, Education Abroad and Student Involvement Opportunities, hosted by the Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement Office (SLiCE) at CSU.

An extensive schedule of afternoon events is available to prospective students, including an Information Fair in the grand ballrooms of the Lory Student Center where visitors will learn more about campus resources and various offices. Optional tours of selected departments on campus and the University Center for the Arts will be available. Student Diversity Programs and Services are hosting open houses in their offices in the LSC, and the Office of Financial Aid is hosting sessions for resident and nonresident students.

explore_future_ram_squareCSU students help create a special day

Many current CSU students help create this special day for prospective students. Rylee Causey, CSU Admissions Ambassador and a junior marketing and computer information systems major, is one of three coordinators in charge of all the volunteers helping to create a unique and worthwhile experience for future Rams attending Explore CSU.

“As an Admissions Ambassador we are always involved with visit days, and those are my favorite days,” said Causey. “We will have hundreds of potential students on campus for Explore CSU. They are so excited to be here, and that’s such an awesome experience to be part of. This event is also so impactful for potential students, so being involved and helping students find their future university is very rewarding.”

Meant to be a CSU Ram

As a first-generation student from Las Vegas, Causey and her parents felt like they were on their own during her college search. After visiting nearly a dozen universities, she realized she was meant to be CSU Ram.

“After my final college visit, I just had an overwhelming feeling that I was meant to be at CSU,” said Causey. “I felt so at home at CSU and could see myself being at the university for the next four years. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. The university has provided me with so many opportunities over the past few years. I’ve learned so much, and I’ve enjoyed all of the experiential learning opportunities available. I’ve also met some of the best people I’ve ever known during my time at CSU. ”
