Forbes magazine has ranked Colorado State University as the top educational employer in the state on its list of “America’s Best Large Employers” released this month.

Of the 600 large employers on the list from around the country, CSU was ranked 211th, ahead of Cornell University and Duke University in the education category. The only other Colorado university to make the list, which was issued Feb. 13, was the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, at number 236.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as the top large educational employer in Colorado,” said Vice President for Human Resources Eric Ray. “Enhancing our overall employee experience at CSU has been a top priority for several years now. We have more to do, of course, but this ranking is a testament to our commitment to recruiting, engaging and retaining the best faculty and staff.”

2nd top ranking in 18 months

The news comes about 18 months after the magazine ranked CSU as the best educational employer of any size in the state, as part of its “America’s Best Employers by State” list released in August 2022.

This latest ranking, produced in partnership with the market research firm Statista, is the product of a survey of employees at U.S. employers with more than 5,000 workers.

Boulder Valley School District made Forbes’ “America’s Best Midsize Employers” list for organizations with 1,000 to 5,000 employees.

Survey respondents were asked to evaluate their employer based on a range of criteria, including working hours, salary, opportunities for training and promotion, workload expectations, mental health benefits and diversity within the management team. Participants were also asked if they would recommend their employer to others, and were given the chance to rate other employers in their respective industries.

Responses were given by current employees, employees who had worked for the organization within the past two years, and individuals familiar with the company through friends, family or peers in their industry. Greater weight was given to evaluations from current employees and former employees.
