Flyovers, largest American flag part of Military Appreciation Game celebration

Helicopter At CSU

An AH-64 Apache helicopter is among the attractions that will be a part of the Military Appreciation Game at CSU on Nov. 11.

Military vehicles, a helicopter flyover and the world’s largest American flag are some of the attractions planned for the Military Appreciation Game on Veterans Day at Colorado State University.

Before the Rams take on the San Diego State Aztecs at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Canvas Stadium, fans of all ages will have the opportunity to explore a variety of military vehicles and equipment from Fort Carson, located near Colorado Springs. These include a joint light tactical vehicle, an M777 howitzer and a medium tactical vehicle.

During the Ram Walk with the CSU Marching Band, cheer teams, football players, coaches as well as ROTC cadets, UH-60 Black Hawk and AH-64 Apache helicopters will fly over Hughes Way and land on the Lory Student Center’s west lawn for public display.

Before kickoff at 5 p.m. at Canvas Stadium, the world’s largest American flag will be unfurled during the National Anthem, with student veterans carrying military branch flags on the field. The National Anthem at Canvas Stadium will be punctuated with a U.S. Air Force flyover.

The annual Military Appreciation Game is just one of many ways that CSU celebrates veterans and the armed forces. CSU is regularly recognized as one of the country’s top institutions for veterans with past recognition from the Military Times.

“Opportunities such as the cadets walking in Ram Walk signifies the support CSU provides to our 140-year-old tradition of military training at our land-grant university,” said Lt. Col. Matt Tillman, who leads CSU’s Army ROTC program. “We are so blessed to be supported by this campus in so many meaningful ways.”
