President McConnell’s first Fall Address and University Picnic Sept. 19, 2019

Live from The Oval — Joyce McConnell’s first Fall Address as president of CSU.

Colorado State University President Joyce McConnell will deliver the annual President’s Fall Address on Thursday, Sept. 19 on CSU’s historic Oval. McConnell will highlight Colorado State University’s sesquicentennial this year and focus on how the university can build a strong future on the foundation of CSU’s proud land-grant history of access to higher education. She also will discuss coming together as a campus community to address racism and promote equity.

The university community is invited to gather at the Oval at 11:15 a.m. with the Colorado State University Marching Band. McConnell will begin her comments at 11:30 a.m. from the west side of the Oval.

For those unable to attend the Fall Address on campus, the live stream will be available at 11:30 a.m. at source.colostate.edu/fall-address/. You also can watch below.

President McConnell’s first Fall Address

McConnell became the 15th President of Colorado State University on July 1. Prior to assuming the top position at CSU, she served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at West Virginia University.

Celebrate the spirit and diversity of CSU

Immediately following the address will be the annual campus-wide University Picnic, celebrating the spirit and diversity of Colorado State.

The University Picnic, a CSU tradition, was first held in September 1997 as a thank-you to the university community for pulling together in the aftermath of the devastating Spring Creek Flood. The event has been held annually in conjunction with the President’s Fall Address ever since.

University Picnic menu

This year’s University Picnic menu includes:

  • Pesto turkey on flatbread
  • Turkey sandwich on gluten-free sourdough (gluten-free; dairy-free)
  • Whole wheat southwest black bean hummus wrap (vegan)
  • Assorted beverages from Coca-Cola, including Dasani water

Closures, transportation, weather

The Oval will be closed to traffic and parking throughout the day.

The campus community is encouraged to use Around the Horn, the free, on-campus shuttle system designed to help people get across campus conveniently and quickly. The route runs every 10 minutes and provides services to multiple stops across campus, including stops adjacent to the Oval. The Horn’s route will be slightly altered the day of the Fall Address due to set-up and during the event, but will stop near the Administration Building.

In case of inclement weather, check the CSU website at www.colostate.edu for updates on a possible location change.
