Department of Art and Art History hosts open house Saturday

In conjunction with the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art grand opening, the Art and Art History Department will celebrate the visual arts at CSU with an open house Saturday, welcoming the community to see galleries, classrooms and studio spaces in the Visual Arts Building at 200 Lake St. The open house takes place on from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 10.

“We are very excited to open our spaces to correspond with the Gregory Allicar Museum opening later in the day, and celebrate the beginning of the Fall 2016 semester,” said Suzanne Faris, chair of the Department of Art and Art History. “The department has not had an open house in many years, making this a great opportunity to invite our friends, new and old, and perhaps those we have not met yet, to get a better sense of who we are and what we have to offer.”

artopenhouse_ucaArt faculty, staff and graduate students will be present in studios and classrooms to answer questions and show guests around. Additionally, student art organizations will have informational tables, and the Artstream Nomadic Trailer will be parked on the south side of the Visual Art Building.

The morning also provides a preview of The Collaboration Project exhibition in the Hatton Gallery, a joint effort orchestrated by artist and alum Eugene Schilling, with work by Nora McBride, Henry Blount, Abel Tilahun, Ian Wilkerson, Stephen Quiller, Barbara Leyendecker, James Fuller and Randy Pjoan.

Additionally, as part of the Contemporary Ceramics exhibition at the Fort Collins Lincoln Center, featured artists Matthew Metz and Sam Harvey will give ceramics demonstrations in the CSU pottery studio from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The ceramics exhibition, curated by CSU professors Sanam Emami and Del Harrow, opens Sept. 9, and registration for the demonstration is available at lctix.com/opportunities.

“This will be an incredible weekend of art at Colorado State University, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it,” added Faris.
