CSU partners with History Colorado to present exhibit honoring Colorado

Colorado State University is partnering to honor the state’s history in an exhibit at History Colorado, which will be open to the public for the next six years.

“As CSU prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary as Colorado’s Land Grant institution in 2020, we are proud to support this look back at the stories, people, and inventions that weave the history of our great state,” said Amy Parsons, executive vice chancellor of the Colorado State University System.

Zoom In: The Centennial State in 100 Objects opens Nov. 17 and offers visitors a chance to step into the story and explore 100 unique objects that have shaped our state. The items provide an overview of Colorado’s history from early Paleoindians, living along the Front Range 13,000 years ago, to the twenty-first century with the innovative story of Crocs shoes, developed in Colorado.

The exhibit opens in the Tim Schultz Gallery, a new 3,700-square-foot gallery space on the museum’s third floor – named for CSU-alumnus Tim Schultz, who retired as executive director of the Boettcher Foundation earlier in 2017.

The exhibition explores how objects define Coloradans, and acknowledges the diverse people who have called the state home for 13,000 years or more.

Colorado’s history is far too rich and complex to be distilled into only 100 objects but the items selected – both ordinary and extraordinary – represent the diversity of Colorado’s places and people, said Steve Turner, History Colorado’s executive director.

“The objects act as portals that open the doors to the stories of our past,” Turner said. “We hope this overview sparks curiosity about our history and a desire to learn more.”

Zoom In is included in the cost of a general admission ticket: $12 adults, $10 students/seniors 65+, $8 children 6-12; children 5 and under free. For complete information, visit www.HistoryColoradoCenter.org. Zoom In is presented by Colorado State University.
