Colorado State University has been honored by the Best Workplaces for Commuters — an achievement earned by providing a robust employee commuter benefits program, helping to reduce traffic congestion and improving the overall quality of life for those who live and work in the region.

CSU is among a select group of employers in the United States that have been named a 2024 Best Workplace for Commuters, which requires its members to provide comprehensive progressive commuter benefits to their employees. CSU employees have access to:

  • Free transit options such as the Around the Horn campus shuttle and local routes operated by Transfort, FLEX to Loveland, Berthoud, Longmont and Boulder, and Poudre Express to Windsor and Greeley.
  • A rental fleet for work trips through Fleet Services.
  • Flexible parking permits, including partial-week, remote and daily options.
  • Zipcars available on campus for car-sharing.
  • A telework policy to support employees and their supervisors.
  • Inclusive on-site commuter amenities, such as showers, break rooms, reflection rooms and lactation rooms.
  • Over 18,000 bicycle parking spaces and several bike repair stands.
  • The Spoke on-campus bike maintenance and educational training center.
  • E-scooters and e-bikes on campus provided by Spin.
  • Electric vehicle charging.
  • Commuter education such as recent Professional Development Institute classes for employees like Transfort Travel Training, Bicycle Friendly Driver, Cycling in Winter or the annual Get Back on the Bike cohort.
  • Events like the upcoming Winter Bike to Work Day on Friday, Feb. 9 (CSU will host a station on the Oval from 7-9:30 a.m.).

CSU employees may sign up for a one-on-one commute consultation to explore their commute options and get assistance with planning their trip using various modes.

“We’re thrilled to be named a Best Workplace for Commuters,” said Nate Vander Broek, active transportation professional with Parking and Transportation Services. “We’ve worked hard to provide our employees with a variety of transportation options and amenities, including customized commute plans. We want to ensure all employees have a safe and economical way to get to and from campus, whether they’re riding the bus, bicycling, walking, carpooling, vanpooling or driving; we’re here to help find the best option that suits your needs.”

Julie Bond, program manager of Best Workplaces for Commuters said they were excited to include CSU as a top employer in the nation for offering remarkable commuter benefits to their employees.

“Their leadership not only demonstrates a commitment to supporting their employees, it signals to others their dedication to the environment and to improving the quality of life for our communities as a whole,” she said.
