Community invited to join Muslim students at Ramadan Iftar dinner celebration March 22

Ramadan Iftar 2024

The Colorado State University community is invited to join Muslim students on March 22 as they break their fast in celebration of Ramadan.

The traditional meal of Iftar will be held from 6:30-10 p.m. that day in the Lory Student Center Grand Ballroom. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is a time for spiritual reflection, self-discipline and increased devotion to Allah. During Ramadan, adult Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset.

As the sun sets and the fast is broken, Muslims come together to share in the traditional meal of Iftar. This event will be an opportunity to experience the spiritual and cultural significance of the holy month while connecting with fellow students, faculty and staff. Food for up to 600 people will be catered by the Lory Student Center, and presentations on Islamic culture and traditions, as well as a sunset prayer will be held. The event is open to the Fort Collins community as well.

“I am honored to extend a warm invitation to the Colorado State University community and our neighbors in Fort Collins to join our SWANA (Southwest Asian and North African) students in the joyous celebration of Ramadan,” said Reham Abdunabi, president of SWANA CSU. “This event holds a special place in my heart as one of my personal favorites. It’s not just an opportunity to indulge in Arab cuisine, but also a chance to delve into the rich cultural and religious meaning of Ramadan.”

“As the advisor for SWANA, I am incredibly proud of the work and dedication our students have accomplished to serve the Muslim community at CSU,” added Student Success Coordinator Hiba Abdeljalil. “I am also filled with joy to share our holy month with the CSU community for the third time.”

Sponsors of the event include SWANA CSU, the Asian Pacific American Cultural Center, International Programs, the Black/African American Cultural Center, the Residence Hall Association, RamEvents and the City of Fort Collins.
