Jonathan Thompson, environmental journalist, author, and contributing editor to High Country News, will be discussing his first book, River of Lost Souls: The Science, Politics, and Greed Behind the Gold King Mine Disaster, on Tuesday, April 16, as part of Colorado State University Morgan Library’s Evening with an Author series.

Thompson combines history, investigative journalism, science, and politics to expand on the consequences of the 2015 Gold King Mine disaster in southwestern Colorado, when pressurized, sediment-filled wastewater was released into the Las Animas River. The water turned into a brown-orange muck, and the contamination caused devastating effects to farms and towns downstream and in the surrounding area. River of Lost Souls also brings attention to other environmental topics including mine tailings, water systems and pollution.

Thompson’s talk is free and open to the public, and begins at 7 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Theater on the CSU campus. Seating for this event is on a first-come first-serve basis; no tickets are required, doors open at 6:30 p.m.
