Annual SHABBAT 300 Dinner set for Oct. 20

Community Dinner 2

The popular SHABBAT 300 Dinner — the largest Jewish event on campus — is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m., with special guest of honor Colorado State University Executive Vice President Rick Miranda.

Hosted by the Chabad Jewish Student Organization at CSU, the annual Shabbat 300 Dinner includes a kosher meal showcasing Jewish cuisine and traditional foods. Organizers said the event is an educational, cultural and social experience for anyone, including students, faculty and staff.

“In the aftermath of the recent attack, it is more important than ever that all Jews come together in celebrating not only our religious roots, but in a showing of solidarity with those around the world and the state of Israel,” said Shayna Ross, president of Chabad at CSU.

She added: “Shabbat 300 is wonderful event that brings together many Jews in our community. I am excited to see students and community members connecting to their heritage and each other. Furthermore, it is a great opportunity for non-Jewish students and community members to learn and experience the Jewish culture.”

Now in its 16th year at CSU, the SHABBAT 300 Dinner was pioneered by the Chabad Jewish Student Organization at the State University of New York at Binghamton over 20 years ago. Organizers explained that the goal is to unite a diverse mass of students in a meaningful experience by providing the Chabad Shabbat dinner experience to a broader audience. To date hundreds of colleges across America host these Shabbats.

“Shabbat 100 … 1000 has proven to be a potent catalyst for invigorating both Jewish life on campus and creating multi-cultural diversity,” said Rabbi Yerachmiel Gorelik. “It has served as a portal to the campus community for thousands of students who were previously uninvolved in a discussion that stretches across three millennia.”

The event is co-sponsored by the Associated Students of CSU, the Lory Student Center, Residence Hall Association and Coca-Cola.
