2nd Saturdays at CSU Spur provide free Denver activities for entire family

If you’re looking for fun, free activities in Denver for the whole family, look no further than 2nd Saturdays at CSU Spur. 

While CSU Spur is always free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week, it opens its doors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every second Saturday of the month for a variety of activities and special events. 

Dates for 2nd Saturday in 2024: Feb. 10, March 9, April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9, and Dec. 14.

The 2nd Saturday events all have their own themes, starting with Focus on the Future on Feb. 10. 

During this edition of 2nd Saturday, CSU Spur visitors will have the chance to explore career pathways through Colorado State University’s campuses in Fort Collins and Pueblo, as well as learn from professors who will discuss everything from the power of hydrogen to the exciting jobs in the field of construction management. 

The upcoming 2nd Saturday also features: 

  • A look at the various technologies inspired by insects, as well as a collection of bug specimens. 
  • Activities with the Butterfly Pavilion. 
  • Giveaways to celebrate CSU mascot CAM the Ram’s birthday. 
  • And so much more!

In addition to special programming surrounding each theme, here’s a snapshot of what visitors can do every 2nd Saturday at Spur: 

  • Take part in cooking demonstrations in the test kitchen, with plenty of opportunities for free samples! 
  • Watch veterinarians perform surgeries on dogs and cats in the Dumb Friends League Veterinary Hospital. 
  • Explore future careers in the Kids Mock Vet Clinic and Kid’s Kitchen. 
  • Experience virtual reality. 
  • Participate in digging activities against a panoramic look at the Denver skyline while checking out the rooftop greenhouses and green roof on the Terra Building. 
  • See the horses who live on-site at CSU Spur assisting with therapy for humans at the Temple Grandin Equine Center.
  • Make and perform your own music in the Hydro building’s Music Lab. 
  • Grab a bite to eat at Western Daughters Kitchen, a cafe featuring items with produce grown on-site.
