A series of events Oct. 26-29 will focus attention on the status of non-tenure track faculty at Colorado State University. All faculty, both tenure and non-tenure track, are urged to attend as many sessions as their schedule will allow.
“We are committed to changing the culture for non-tenure track faculty across campus,” said Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Dan Bush. “Part of that change involves how we all – faculty, staff and administration – think about these key contributors to the teaching, research and service missions of CSU.”
Daily events
Also known as Campus Equity Week, the State of Faculty Week kicks off on Monday with a series of presentations in a pop-up classroom on the LSC plaza, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Tuesday’s events include an AAUP Roundtable and Brown Bag Lunch, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and a discussion of the book The Humanities, Higher Education & Academic Freedom: Three Necessary Arguments, by Michael Berube and Jennifer Ruth, 2-3:30 p.m. The book shows why the deprofessionalization of college teaching matters – and what can be done to reverse it. Both events take place in Room 304-306 of the Lory Student Center.
On Wednesday, join the Faculty Evaluation Discussion Brown Bag Lunch in LSC 376-378, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Thursday starts at 9 a.m. with a screening of the film ConJob: Stories of Adjunct & Contingent Labor in the Morgan Library Event Hall, followed by a Q&A with director Megan Fulwiler. The documentary describes and makes visible the pedagogical, economic, and ethical costs of higher education’s growing reliance on adjunct and contingent faculty.
The final event for State of Faculty Week takes place that afternoon in the Cherokee Park Ballroom of the LSC, 4:30-6:30 p.m. “Models and Pathways to Job Security and Promotion for Contingent Faculty” will be the topic for guest speakers Megan Fulwiler, associate professor of English at the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y., and Doug Hesse, professor of English and founding executive director of the writing program at the University of Denver, which has received the prestigious CCCC Certificate of Excellence.
All State of Faculty Week are free and the entire campus community is encouraged to attend.
