Miss Colorado visited her alma mater on Wednesday to do some volunteer work and connect with friends, old and new.

ShannonPatilla3Shannon Patilla, who graduated with a degree in Health and Exercise and Science in spring 2015, will represent the Centennial State in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City on Sept. 11.

She was on campus Aug. 10 to help prepare backpacks in the 25th anniversary of CSU’s School is Cool initiative, which outfits local K-12 students who might not otherwise be able to afford school supplies.

Afterwards, the avid CSU football fan checked out the new on-campus stadium that’s under construction, then found one of her favorite HES instructors, Wendy DeYoung, who gave her a tour of the department’s new teaching facility.

ShannonPatillaPosing for photos throughout, Shannon concluded her campus visit by attending the Employee Appreciation, Ice Cream Social and Community Welcome event held east of the Student Recreation Center that afternoon.

The next day, she returned to campus to spend some time with kids enrolled in the Youth Sport Camps led by another of her former faculty members, Brian Butki.

You can follow Patilla on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat, and more information about the Miss America Pageant can be found at misscolorado.org and missamerica.org.

The Department of Health and Exercise Science is part of CSU’s College of Health and Human Sciences.
