Q&A with The Reminders

You all are performing on Juneteenth, what does this important day mean to you all? Are you doing anything special?

Juneteenth is something we have celebrated for years. We are glad it has finally become recognized as a national holiday. Now, more people are aware and have been learning about that part of history, also joining in the festivities.

Your music has been described as global. Based on your international background, what is it about your music that connects with listeners across the country and around the world?

Right, being well traveled and having such a rich heritage, we’ve been able to incorporate a little bit of everything we grew up jamming to, from reggae, hip hop, soul, jazz and funk. Also, since becoming artists, we have collaborated with musicians in Jamaica, Gnawa musicians in Morocco, Qawwali bands and so many more. We express ourselves freely, and genuinely; people connect with music from the heart.

Was there a particular song or artist that sparked your love for music?

Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Sting, Freddie Mercury, The Fugees.

What is your favorite song to perform right now?

“Dust & Bones” and “Walking With You.”
