CSU involvement in Velorama Colorado includes economic impact report

Colorado State University will be involved in the inaugural Velorama Colorado Classic bike race and music festival the second weekend in August.

The event, August 10-13, includes a race that is part of a men and women’s pro bicycle race USA Cycling’s Pro Road Tour through Colorado Springs, Breckenridge, and Denver, as well as a music festival in the Rino Art District in Denver.

CSU Colorado Future’s Center will complete an economic impact report of the event as part of CSU’s involvement in the race.

Colorado Future’s Center Lead Economist Phyllis Resnick will complete the report.

“The Velorama will draw attendees and spending to the multiple events happening in the three cities. Our analysis will assess the level of direct economic activity concentrated in the three cities as a result of the Velorama,” Resnick said.

The report, expected to be completed in Fall 2017, will share the monetary impact of the event, and Resnick anticipates that the event format will contribute to its success.

“For Denver particularly, we expect that the newly offered combination of music and cycling will result in economic activity that will be greater than if either the music or cycling event had been staged separately,” she said.
