In the amazing history of the CSU volleyball program, which includes 20 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, the Rams have yet to eclipse one huge hurdle.
Friday, the Rams will try to surpass all of their predecessors and make some history of their own when the face Texas in the third round of the NCAAs. While the Rams have reached this point 10 times in their history, they’ve never been able to get to the national quarterfinals.
It won’t be easy. Texas is one of the nation’s great programs, advancing to the national semifinals six times in the past seven years and winning the 2012 national championship.
Still, the Rams (30-2) have already posted the second-most wins in school history, and they are a veteran team accustomed to overcoming challenges. The Rams faced a match point in the fifth set Saturday against Colorado, for example, before rallying for a thrilling victory.
The game will be carried online by ESPN3. The Boot Grill, on the corner of Mason and Laurel streets, is the official “watch party” location.
