Transgender Day of Remembrance set for Nov. 17

candleTransgender Day of Remembrance is dedicated to memorialize and honor the transgender lives lost to violence and hate. Colorado State University’s Pride Resource Center will observe TDOR on Nov. 17 this year; the international event to bring attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community takes place on Nov. 20, when CSU is closed for Fall Break.

The campus event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. in the Pride Resource Center on the main level of the Lory Student Center with two speakers, hot cocoa and cookies, and then move outside for a candlelight vigil on the plaza.  During the vigil, there will be a reading of names of transgender people who have been murdered in 2016.

TDOR was founded in 1999 to memorialize Rita Hester, a transgender woman of color who was murdered in Massachusetts.
