Sonny Lubick: A legacy of success and community leadership

Sonny Lubick is synonymous with success. Just ask anyone who played for him, or any fan of Colorado State football.

Lubick, who became CSU’s 18th head coach in 1993, won more conference titles (6) and went to more bowl games (9) than anyone in the 123-year history of the sport. In fact, he coached more bowl games than all other CSU coaches combined (6).

As a result, it’s no surprise an anonymous donor has chosen to donate $20 million to CSU to make sure the field at the new on-campus stadium, set to open in fall 2017, will be named Sonny Lubick Field.

Honored a second time

Lubick’s contributions to CSU and the Fort Collins community is so profound that this marks the second time his name has been attached to CSU’s stadium. In 2003, thanks to a generous gift from Pat Stryker, Hughes Stadium was renamed Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium.
