UPDATE: Shields Street closed south of Elizabeth Street until April 3 due to utility line relocation
Shields Street will be closed south of Elizabeth Street for an additional two weeks as part of the bicycle and pedestrian underpass construction. The intersection will be open to traffic Monday, April 3.
Construction crews uncovered a third-party utility line and need to use the full closure for relocation of that utility. Crews will leverage this additional time in the intersection to accelerate other elements of the project and cut down on single lane closures this spring and summer. This project is still on schedule to be complete by August of this year.
The Elizabeth and Shields intersection, along with the Moby parking lot, will remain open. Local, residential and business access will also be open. Recommended detour routes are Mulberry or Prospect to Taft Hill or College. The traveling is strongly encouraged to use the designated detour routes so traffic congestion in the neighborhoods is kept to a minimum.
Vehicle Detour map below is still effective but extends from March 19 until April 3:
Construction on the underpass at Shields and Elizabeth Streets will close Shields Street at the intersection starting Feb. 25. The full closure is slated to conclude April 3 (changed from March 19 which is still referenced in the graphics below). Single lane closures will continue through the completion of the project, slated for August.
The City of Fort Collins press release is here.
