Lee Brice, Academy of Country Music “Single Record of the Year” artist and producer, will be the first country artist to headline Colorado State University’s fall RamFest, set for Friday, Aug. 28, at CSU’s Intramural Fields.
“In past years, we have brought hip hop, rap, and pop artists, so this year we wanted to focus on serving another population of students,” said Rachel D’Attilo, external relations/public relations coordinator for RamEvents. “When looking for a country artist, Lee Brice was an obvious choice. He has broken the record for longest run on the country charts and has had four No. 1 Billboard Country songs in past years.”
Brice’s “Drinking Class” – already an RIAA Gold certified digital track – recently became the No. 1 country song in the nation and follows the ACM-winning “I Don’t Dance” as the second consecutive hit from his September 2014 album, I Don’t Dance.
“We chose to look at a country artist this year because our market research has consistently listed country in the top three genre choices among students,” said D’Attilo. “We collected this information through our trends survey sent out to a random selection of 1,000 students, a text-in campaign, and surveys completed at other Ram Events programs.”
Opening artists
Opening RamFest this year will be Fort Collins band Matt Mahern and Constitution, whose latest album, Test of Time in Music City, was released late last year.
Constitution will be followed by Nashville recording artist and Colorado native Clare Dunn, named “One to Watch” in 2015 by USA Today. Her self-titled EP is set to be released Sept. 18, during her “Heartland” tour to benefit struggling farming communities like the one she grew up in near the Oklahoma Panhandle.
Doors for RamFest open at 5 p.m. on Friday. Constitution takes the stage at 5:30 p.m., Clare Dunn at 6:30, and Lee Brice begins his set at 8 p.m.
Tickets are still available for the show, both CSU student-priced tickets at $10 and general public tickets at $35. CSU students can purchase general public tickets should student-priced tickets sell out.
All tickets are first-come, first-served and can be purchased online.
