Title/role: Assistant Professor, Biology, CSU

When did you visit the CSU Todos Santos Center?

I’ve been visiting the Center for about a week each year since 2016.

What did you work on during your trip(s) to Todos Santos?

I co-teach a workshop in computational biology at the Center. The workshop provides an introduction to modern techniques in data analysis related to genomics and biological systems. Students and researchers from across the region gather with faculty and students from CSU for hands-on experience in biological computing. This year, I’m excited to also be organizing an international research symposium on RNA biology.  The symposium will provide a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Center.

What did you find most rewarding about your experience in Todos Santos?

The Center provides a wealth of educational and outreach opportunities for CSU affiliates. I enjoy getting to know local scientists in the region and learning about their research and culture.

Do you have plans to return to the Center?

I suspect that most years I’ll find a reason to escape to Todos Santos for a few days. Over the next couple of years, I have time reserved at the Center for a research symposium, a computational biology workshop, and a short course in computer programming.

What are your favorite things about the Todos Santos community?

Todos Santos is a true gem. The laid-back vibe is unlike anything you’d experience in the United States. The people in Todos Santos are friendly and welcoming, and the staff at the Center is incredibly helpful. Great food, beautiful beaches, and wonderful people!

Is there anything else you want people to know about CSU’s involvement in Todos Santos?

The Center offers a unique opportunity for CSU affiliates to engage in global outreach. Many CSU students and faculty are already taking advantage of these opportunities and having a positive impact on the region.
