Picnic at the Lagoon with Danielle Ate the Sandwich

Danielle1For the second year in a row, Danielle Anderson, aka Danielle Ate The Sandwich, will bring her ukulele and her following of “Fanwiches” to the Lagoon Summer Concert Series stage on the west lawn of Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 6:30 p.m.

The indie-folk singer songwriter entertains audiences of all ages with her quirky yet thoughtful original songs and beautifully redone covers of such artists as Taylor Swift, Iron and Wine, and Ray LaMontagne. In addition to performing and touring nationally, she has more than 100 original YouTube videos and a vast online following.

Her newest album, The Drawing Back of Curtains, was composed as the original soundtrack for the HBO documentary film, Packed in a Trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Lake Wilkinson, which aired on July 20. The album features 11 full-length songs, written and inspired by the artist’s life and work.

Originally from Grant, Neb., Anderson cut her teeth at open-mic nights while at CSU before moving to New York City to work in the fashion industry. Just before leaving in December 2008, her video of “Conversations with Dead People,”‪ a song from her first album, was featured on YouTube’s homepage. She gained thousands of views in a few short days and eventually quit her day job to work as a full-time singer songwriter.

Opening for Danielle Ate The Sandwich will be Little Kids Rock Group, Tavelli, at 6:15 p.m. In addition to live music, attendees will also enjoy food from local food trucks – The Human Bean, Pizza Casbah, Divine Ice Cream and The Goodness.

One more concert Aug. 12

Danielle Ate the Sandwich was originally scheduled to close the 2015 Lagoon Summer Concert Series, but due to the heavy rains in July, the final Lagoon concert will be the following Wednesday, Aug. 12, featuring Winchester Holiday at 6:30 p.m.

The Lagoon Concert will follow the third annual Community Open House and Ice Cream Social, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on the Recreation Center lawn, at the corner of Meridian and Plum.

“The Community Open House and Ice Cream Social is all about welcoming the community to campus and recognizing and celebrating the fact that neither Colorado State nor the Fort Collins community would be what they are without the other,” said Tom Milligan, vice president for external relations. “We are all fortunate to live and work in such a terrific place, and this is one small way to celebrate that.”

The event will feature a plethora of activities, including inflatable games, interactive booths from various campus divisions and colleges, food trucks and, of course, free ice cream and beverages for all, with live music from local bands Post Paradise and Slow Caves.

The Lagoon Summer Concert Series is produced by Mantooth Marketing with thanks to the generous support of Colorado State University, Kaiser Permanente and Thrivent Financial. Event sponsors include Aspen Grove Vet Clinic, Bohemian Foundation, Big O Tires, Campus West Shops, City of Fort Collins, Dellenbach Motors, Fort Collins Coloradoan, ReMax Advanced, Rocky Mountain Collegian, Outpost Sunsport, Townsquare Media and Western States Bank.
