Brittany Dennison

Major: Animal Science (2021 graduate)

Why I chose CSU: One of the main reasons is that of my parents meeting at and attending CSU. I knew I wanted to also gain a degree in animal science and I felt like the College of Agriculture at CSU would give me the best opportunities to explore careers in this field.

Favorite thing about CSU: I loved being able to be hands on with the livestock in as many classes as possible.

Clubs/organizations in college: College of Agriculture Ag Ambassadors, Collegiate Livestock Association, Collegiate Farm Bureau

Scholarships/awards in college: Colorado Farm Show Scholarship, National Western Stock Show Scholarship

Favorite achievement: My favorite achievement in college was that of having the honor to serve as Ag Ambassador president.

Quirky fact: I was a college cheerleader at the community college I attended before CSU.

Career goals: My career goal is to serve in a role that allows me to advocate for Colorado agriculture. I have the privilege to serve Colorado Agriculture currently by working for Colorado Livestock Association.

Favorite instructor(s)/class: Animal metabolism taught by Dr. Terry Engle. Dr. Engle’s style of teaching really taught me to think critically and helped me understand the in-depth system functions that take place in livestock.

Favorite NOCO food and hangouts: Silver Grill Cafe – its absolutely worth it to get up early to get there for their breakfast.

Favorite CSU tradition: Ag Day, it is incredible to see everyone come together and celebrate CSU’s roots and wear the Aggie orange.

What do you tell people from Phillips County about CSU: CSU has some of the best opportunities for networking with industry professionals and has the best internship opportunities to help you find your dream career.

Something people should know about Phillips County: My home county may be small, but I loved every minute of growing up in a small community on the plains of Colorado. Although it may be flat and a little windy at times seeing the open land with the variety of agriculture growing on it is beautiful.

Biggest adversity you’ve overcome at CSU: Going from a class of 21 students in high school to a small community college, it was a big step to come to CSU where there were so many other students in some of my classes. It was a big adjustment going from rural Colorado to a busy university campus.

Influence of CSU Extension in your home county: CSU Extension had a large role in my home (Phillips and Logan) counties. The agents were very active and made sure that kids were able to participate in 4-H projects and that each kid had the tools to succeed in those projects. The county fair was a big deal in my home counties whether you were showing livestock or baking a cake everyone felt like they could be a part of the fair.
