A Message from Lynn Shore: Department of Management Chair

Dear alumni and friends of the Department of Management,

Lynn Shore, Professor and Chair of the Management Department, College of Business

It is a pleasure to share news about the department. We have many great activities going on and we are proud of the accomplishments of our faculty, staff, and students. I am now serving in my fourth year as department chair and my previous three years have been interesting and fulfilling.

Our concentrations in management continue to grow. This fall, 322 students are majoring in Organization and Innovation management, 105 students are majoring in Supply Chain Management, and 64 students are majoring in Human Resource Management. Students also are enrolling in our certificate programs, involving three courses. Certificates allow students to add an area of expertise that enhances the knowledge gained in their concentration.

The Entrepreneurship Certificate is designed for students both in business and across campus, and continues to be very popular. This certificate allows us to support our fledgling undergraduate entrepreneurs, as they learn about starting a new venture, sustainability and new venture development, creativity and innovation, and business plan development.

We also offer certificates in supply chain, leadership, and human resource management. The programs we are offering in management support our Colorado State University students in their education, and help them to excel in the marketplace.

Based on our strategic planning process, several important initiatives are underway. We are seeking to build stronger relations with our alumni and members of the business community to help us further our strategic goals. Our department has corporate boards in supply chain and in entrepreneurship, to collaborate on projects beneficial to students. We are currently in the early stages of developing an HR/OB roundtable. I’ll keep you posted on our progress!

Other important initiatives are to create more scholarships for our students and garner additional support for faculty research. We continue to support our goal of enhancing the educational environment for our diverse and international students. CSU is becoming more diverse in many ways, and we believe this adds value to the education of all of our students. Inclusion is a priority in the Department of Management.

I am very proud of the accomplishments of our faculty and staff. The college just wrapped up our 50th anniversary celebration so be sure to read the interview with Professors Jim Francis and Jim McCambridge (recently retired) who have been here for the majority of that time. They describe the changes that have occurred as our college has grown and thrived.

Also, we have highlights of the great activities in which our faculty are involved. Our student clubs are thriving, and we have provided an update on recent student activities. We love hearing from our alumni, so please feel free to stop by Rockwell Hall on your next campus visit or send me an email.  When you have a chance, please send us any news you have about your career and life experiences. We would love to feature you in an upcoming newsletter.
