In memory: David Stanley (Stan) Eitzen

Stan Eitzen, 82, passed away July 3 in Newton, Kansas. Stan was born August 4, 1934, in Glendale, California, to David D. and Amanda (Heidebrecht) Eitzen.

Stan was a lifelong scholar, earning a Bachelor’s degree in history from Bethel College, a Master’s in history from Emporia State, and a second Master’s and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Kansas.

Stan taught in the sociology department at Colorado State University for 21 years, and was a devoted fan of all CSU Rams sports teams. Stan wrote numerous articles and books in the areas of sociology of sport, family, criminology, social inequality, and social problems.

In 2005, Stan and Florine moved to Newton to be near college friends and many relatives. Stan is survived by Florine, his wife of 61 years, his brother Abe, sons Keith (Dawn) and Mike (Kris), daughter Kelly (Scott), and six grandchildren.

A memorial service for Stan was held on July 17th in North Newton, KS.
