The Morgan Library is celebrating International Open Access Week, which runs Oct. 22-28, with a free screening of the recently released documentary film Paywall: The Business of Scholarship.

The film is a thought-provoking documentary that focuses on the importance of open access to research and science, and questions the rationale behind the $25.2 billion a year that flows into for-profit academic publishers.

The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, in the Morgan Library Event Hall, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The film will be followed by a discussion. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch.

In addition to the film screening, the Morgan Library will also be encouraging faculty and researchers to register for an ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID), which is a digital persistent identifier that distinguishes researchers. Interested faculty and researchers can stop by an information table in the Morgan Library lobby. Staff will be at the table to answer any questions at the following times: Tuesday 1-3 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m.-noon, and Thursday 10 a.m.-noon.
