Instant Empire to play Stadium Sessions before Nov. 2 home football game

Instant Empire

Instant Empire released its third LP, ‘Cathedrals,’ earlier this year.

Stadium Sessions — the series of free outdoor performances by top Colorado bands before every Colorado State University home football game — returns Nov. 2 with a show by Instant Empire.

The third season of Stadium Sessions features a stellar lineup of performances at the Coors Light Ram Walk Tailgate, which opens four hours prior to kickoff on Meridian Avenue north of Canvas Stadium. Kickoff for the game against the University of Nevada Las Vegas is at 1:30 p.m.

In addition to the live music before the game, which begins with a Little Kids Rock performance by Emma Marie, the tailgate features lawn games, food trucks and beverages for purchase. TVs will be on display for live, nationwide game-day viewing.

“We are honored to partner with Colorado State University in this way and be able to provide the service of booking the bands for the Stadium Sessions and record each wonderful performance to then re-air and stream online,” said Jen Parker, executive director of KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins. “Our overall CSU partnership is extremely important to us as we help promote education, the arts, lifestyle, events and all things positive and meaningful in our great community.”

The remaining Stadium Sessions lineup, presented in partnership with CSU, the Bohemian Foundation and KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins, is:

About the band

Instant Empire writes music that explores humanity in the modern world. Many of the songs the band writes paint pictures and read like short stories, while others are more like fractured, impressionistic poetry. In June 2019, the band released Cathedrals, its third LP, which expands upon the sound and tone it has meticulously refined over the last decade.

The majority of the LP was written in 2018 as part of the band’s 12×12 project, in which the band wrote, recorded and released a new song every month for the entire year. Several common themes emerged from that project, especially the search for human connection. Each song is its own chapter that chronicles the emotions, feelings and issues band members have faced over the last few years. Cathedrals defies easy categorization, sometimes oscillating dramatically from melodic indie pop to aggressive indie punk (often within the same song).

Previous releases from the band have garnered comparisons to a number of indie favorites, including The National, Bright Eyes, The Hold Steady, Car Seat Headrest and Manchester Orchestra.
