In memory: Bennie Armijo

Bennie M Armijo, 89, of Fort Collins, passed away at home on Dec. 28, due to congestive heart failure.

Bennie was born on March 6, 1932, in La Junta, to Alfredo Sanchez and Josefina Gonzales. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grand mother, sister, aunt, tia, and a friend to many.

She married the love of her life, Joe I. Armijo, at the age of fifteen. Together, they celebrated 63 wonderful years. Bennie and Joe loved to travel and take family vacations with their daughter and grandchildren. They loved trips to Las Vegas, playing cards at home, and listening to Joe play the harmonica and accordion. She especially enjoyed crafting and loved to sew. Bennie attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Fort Collins, and she was known for her easy sense of humor and bright smiles.

Bennie was a diligent, hard-working woman. Her first job was at the Silver Grill in Fort Collins as a waitress, where she worked for 5 years. She later retired from Colorado State University after 35 years of service. After leaving CSU, she worked another 15 years at Pace, which became Sam’s Club.

She is survived by her loving daughter Linda Sutton; grandchildren Jason (Mandy) Sutton, Patricia (John) Chaviers, and great granddaughters Kara Lee Schneider and Avrey Grace Sutton. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in several states. Bennie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe I. Armijo, as well as her two sisters and four brothers.

Funeral arrangements are by Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins. Viewing for immediate family will be held from 10 a.m.-4p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12m. Viewing for friends and other family will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13. Bennie’s rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 14,  followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fort Collins. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens. A celebration of life will be held in Bennie’s honor at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 121 N. Meldrum St, Fort Collins, 80521 immediately following interment until 4 p.m. Bring food at Knight of Columbus around 8:30 a.m., before the rosary.
