The Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration kicked off with a march from Old Town to CSU’s Lory Student Center.

Hundreds of CSU and Fort Collins community members marched in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 19.

The theme of this year’s celebration was "Free But Shackled: The Cost Of Oppression."

Immediately following the march, those in attendance gathered in the Lory Student Center to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Karen Weitkunat, mayor of the City of Fort Collins, officially proclaimed Monday, Jan. 19, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Poetry and essay contest winners from both Colorado State University and the Poudre School District read and displayed their winning works.
