Friday night lights: Rams, Buffs set for TGIF Showdown

Once again, the Rocky Mountain Showdown is going primetime on Friday night.

The annual football battle between CSU and rival Colorado has been set for Friday, Sept. 1 at Sports Authority Field in Denver. The 89th renewal of the intrastate rivalry kicks off the 2017 season for both teams.

Kickoff time has not been set, but the game is expected to begin in the evening. The Pac-12 Conference will announce at a later date the kickoff time and which network will televise the game.

Fan favorite

Attendance for the Rocky Mountain Showdown, which had slowed dramatically around 2010, has increased in each of the past five seasons. Last year’s crowd of 69,850 was the largest in the series since 2003 (76,219), and the 34,167 tickets purchased by CSU fans marked an increase for the fourth year in a row.

Season tickets for CSU football again will include the Rocky Mountain Showdown and all six games at the new on-campus stadium, which debuts this fall. Prices for the seven-game season-ticket package begin at $225 and payment plans are available.

Reserve your season tickets now

New season ticket commitments are currently being accepted exclusively from CSU alumni, faculty and staff. On January 30, new requests from all fans will begin to be accepted. To reserve season tickets, or for any questions, please call 800-491-RAMS (7267).

Current season ticketholders will have first priority to select their seats in the new stadium, and will soon receive their scheduled date and time to choose their seats through appointments that will begin in March. For more information on the reseating process and Ram Points please visit the special reseating section on the new stadium website.

Exciting home slate set for new stadium

The Rams’ 2017 home schedule features the historic first game at the new Sonny Lubick Field on Sept. 9 vs. Abilene Christian, followed by a Sept. 23 visit from Pac-12 foe Oregon State. Home dates and kickoff times have not been set for the Mountain West schedule, which will include games against Boise State, Air Force, Nevada and San Jose State.

CSU’s full schedule is expected to be announced in late February or early March.
