The management of financial risks is one of the most critical challenges facing companies large and small. Individuals with financial risk management skills are some of most sought-after in business and industry.

The Master of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in Financial Risk Management (MSBA-FRM) at the Colorado State University College of Business provides the training needed to get started on a career in this growing sector of the economy.

The MSBA-FRM is a rigorous program that provides a comprehensive study of the principles, processes, and practices of investment analysis, portfolio management, corporate finance and financial risk management.

Students who complete the MSBA-FRM degree develop expertise in quantitative investment analysis, portfolio management and financial risk management, as well as new and effective solutions to meet the needs of financial and non-financial companies. They can also evaluate current strategies and products from a corporate or regulatory perspective to improve the operation and safety of market mechanisms.

“This is an excellent course of study for individuals holding undergraduate degrees in math-intensive disciplines such as computer science, economics, engineering, finance, and mathematics who wish to expand their career horizons,” said Jennifer Ivan, program manager. “The MSBA-FRM is a highly quantitative program that provides hands-on experience closely aligned with professional practice in investment analysis, portfolio management, corporate finance and financial risk management. You will benefit from individual attention from faculty and online section coordinators, as well as interaction with other motivated and engaged students.”

On campus or online

The MSBA-FRM is offered both on campus in Fort Collins and online, to fit into the busy schedules of employed professionals. Students are required to complete 32 credits of core courses which be accomplished in either two full-time or four part-time semesters.

The MSBA-FRM offered through the CSU College of Business is the only one of its kind in the state. It is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, a distinction earned by fewer than 5 percent of the nation’s business schools. The program also enjoys an academic partnership with the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) to help prepare students to pass their professional certification exams.

“You can be confident that your knowledge earned through the FRM program will translate into real world skills,” Ivan added. “Our students continually have high pass rates on the Chartered Finance Analyst (CFA) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) exams.

The deadline for Fall admission to the CSU MSBA-FRM is June 1. Applications are available online.
