Fifth annual Hach Walk for Water on campus May 5

The Hach’s Walk for Water is an annual community event in partnership with Water Mission that strives to raise awareness about the global water crisis. The three-mile walk, to be held May 5 on the Colorado State University campus, simulates the trek that millions of people in developing countries endure every day in order to retrieve water, which often is not suitable for drinking. Each participant will begin with an empty bucket, fill their bucket with water about half way through the route, and then complete the course by adding their water to one of Hach’s filtration systems. The hope is that participants will gain an understanding of the challenges people around the world face daily in search of something that we often take for granted – water.

Why walk?

All funds raised will support Water Mission’s response to the global water crisis through sustainable safe water and sanitation solutions around the world. With funds raised from last year alone, Hach and Water Mission were able to bring safe water to thousands of men, women, and children in Andot, Cambodia and Santa Clotilde, Peru. This year, we hope to reach even more people in need.

“I am very proud of what we have achieved over the past five years and I am confident that the communities we have helped in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central America have more hope and promise than they did before they had access to clean water,” said Kevin Klau, President of Hach Company.

May 5 event

Participants will gather at the Biology Building patio at 9 a.m. to pick up their t-shirts and buckets and to enjoy family-friendly activities. Activities will include bucket decorating, face painting, and the opportunity to learn more from local water organizations and Water Mission representatives. Coffee, snacks, and music will also be available during this time. The Walk kicks off at 10 a.m. There is no pressure to finish by a specific time as we want participants to take their time and soak in the experience! Click here for a map of the walk route.

“This event is an excellent opportunity for our campus and local communities to come together and support an important cause,” said Julie Kallenberger with CSU’s Water Center. “Colorado State University is excited to partner with Hach and Water Mission to address critical water accessibility and equity issues, while at the same time helping to provide clean water to those in need.”
