Division of Student Affairs fills three open executive director positions

The Division of Student Affairs has filled three leadership roles for Campus Recreation, Career Services and Housing & Dining Services.

Campus Recreation

Cody Frye was selected to serve as the executive director of Campus Recreation following a national search.

Frye has worked in various positions for Campus Recreation over the past 12 years, including assistant director of facility operations, associate director of operations and, for the past six years, as director of Campus Recreation. Prior to his tenure at CSU, Frye worked for eight years in various roles for Campus Recreation at Washington State University.

Frye earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master of science degree in physical and health education, both from the University of Wyoming. He also earned a graduate certificate in Student Affairs in Higher Education at CSU. He begins his new duties effective June 1.

Career Services

Jon Cleveland has accepted an offer to become the executive director of Career Services at CSU.

Cleveland is currently the director of career education and strategic initiatives at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a role he has held since 2016. He was previously the assistant director in the same department, and prior to that served as an advisor in the Wisconsin School of Business, also at UW-Madison.

Cleveland earned his bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of Illinois at Chicago and master’s degree in student affairs administration from Michigan State University. He is currently completing the doctoral program in higher education leadership at CSU. He will begin his new duties on July 30.

Housing & Dining Services

After serving in the interim executive director role for Housing & Dining Services since Jim Dolak retired in August 2017, Mari Strombom accepted an offer to take on the position permanently effective May 1, following a national search.

Strombom has served in various roles at CSU since 1987, including program coordinator for Campus Activities, associate director of Residence Life, director of student involvement and activities and, most recently, associate executive director of Housing & Dining Services for the past 10 years. All but four years of her professional career have been at CSU.

Strombom has a bachelor’s degree in communications and psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a master’s degree in college student personnel administration from CSU.
