CSU hosts Community Open House and Ice Cream Social

Summer is drawing to a close, but there is still time for one last hurrah: All campus and community members are invited to attend the third annual Community Open House and Ice Cream Social at Colorado State University on Aug. 12. This year’s event will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on the Recreation Center lawn, located on the corner of Meridian and Plum.

“The Community Open House and Ice Cream Social is all about welcoming the community to campus and recognizing and celebrating the fact that neither Colorado State nor the Fort Collins community would be what they are without the other,” said Tom Milligan, vice president for external relations. “We are all fortunate to live and work in such a terrific place, and this is one small way to celebrate that.”

The event will feature a plethora of activities, including inflatable games, interactive booths from various campus divisions and colleges, food trucks and, of course, free ice cream and beverages for all. In true Fort Collins fashion, there will also be live music during the event.

“We have two of the hottest and most talented bands anywhere — Post Paradise and Slow Caves — providing the soundtrack, so it will be big fun,” Milligan said.

CSU’s Office of the President sponsors the Community Open House and Ice Cream Social each year. The Coloradoan Media Group will be returning for its third year as a partner for the event.

The event supports the university’s promise of service and engagement to the community. Outreach is among the pillars upon which CSU was founded and is an effort that continues today through interaction with Colorado communities and around the globe. This Commitment to Community is a reflection of the University’s promise of service and engagement to Colorado citizens, executed by providing resources, participating in events, and building community partnerships.
